After going back north on 385, we turned off to the west on Glenn Canyon road. Closer to the Chisos Mountains, the clouds hang low over the peaks.

We will camp at one of the Pine Canyon campsites for the night. First we park at the trailhead and hike to Pine Canyon.
bb2002_pc03.jpg
The trail starts out as broad as the road it once was.
bb2002_pc05.jpg
As we approach the canyon, we cross high desert and the trail narrows.

As we enter Pine Canyon the trees begin.

The canyon is home to species not found elsewhere.

Sculpted rocks and dense vegetation are a marked contrast to the sorrounding desert.

At the head of the canyon is a shear wall with a pouroff. This was the first time I had been there when there was water.

As we leave the canyon, the clouds settle even lower.

I stop along the trail on the way back to photograph the flowers.

Looking back to the trail, I remember the other times I have been here, and hope to return again.

From our campsite back up the road, the desert looks unpredictable. I hope the rain will wait till we leave.
