Phillip & Ilse's Great Adventure (Part 2)

A trip out west

piga2a.colorado1.jpg

We left Dallas early in the morning and drove all the way to Denver the first day. West Texas was flat and boring. I was anxious to see mountains and feel the cool air.  Soon after crossing over into Colorado I got my wish.

View from along I25 heading north.

We drove up into the mountains on a tiny logging road until it ran out, then we camped for the night.

It is actually hard to find places where one is truely miles away from the nearest person, this was one of those spots.

piga2f.bitterroot2.jpg

We parked on a ridge where the road came to a dead end . The ground drops away sharply on three sides

We camped here for the night

piga2l.whitney0blondie.jpg

The next night we camped in the campground at Whitney Portal

This is Blondie, a three year old male bear weighing several hundred ponds. He is a camp bear and steals food for a living. He is cute and very dangerous too. Eventually the Forest Service will be forced to shoot him because campers who fail to protect their food have allowed him to learn the trade of a camp bear.

It is sad, so................ DON'T FEED THE BEARS!
