The hike to the top of Guadalupe Peak

The trail begins in the grassy bottom of Pine Spring Canyon.

The climb out of the canyon is fairly steep in places.

Wildflowers growing along the trail.

Indian paintbrush growing between the rocks on the side of the mountain.

Finally at the top. Ilse sits down to rest.
Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas: 8749 feet.

Another view from the top. The desert surrounding the Guadalupes
is seen in the background, stretching to the horizon.

Storm clouds began gathering overhead.

A rainstorm in the distance began to move our way.
We were almost at eye level with the clouds.

The Guadalupe Mountains are said to generate their own weather.
The sheet of rain moving our way prompted us to leave the peak and head back to our campsite.
