Big Bend - March 2001

This trip to Big Bend was totally awesome. The desert was a riot of color, blooming cacti and wildflowers. I went with Ilse, Wade and Cheryle. We camped at the Telephone Canyon, Ernst Tinaja and Elephant Tusk campsites. These are all remote, primitive campsites that are well off the paved road. I had camped at all the sites in 1999 and 2000. Just getting there is always an adventure. Here are some of the photos from this trip.

We went for a hike across the desert near the Elephant Tusk campsite late in the day. Prickly pear cactus, lechuguilla and ocotillo surround Ilse as we made our way across the desert.
